Ruzafa, Garcia win XTERRA Rincón de la Victoria

The first race of the 2018 XTERRA Spain tour, took place at the beautiful southern city of Rincón de la Victoria in Andalucía, Spain.

Our XTERRA Elite athlete and XTERRA Spain Tour Organizer, Roger Serrano gives us a short post race review:
At 10:00 am more than 180 athletes jumped on the water to complete two laps of 750 meters. After the swim, Jens Roth took the early lead for the men and Sara Bonilla for the women.

Ruben Ruzafa was riding on his playground, as he was born and raised in Rincón de la Victoria and took the lead at the 7th km of the steepest climb, crushing Jens Roth who was not feeling so good.
Xavier Jove and Ander Lazkano were working from the back to overtake Jens at the final part of the 30km.
Sara Bonilla lost the lead on Eva García, our 2017 XTERRA Age Group European Champion, with Rocio Espada riding not far back and putting a lot of emotion on the race.
Ruben started the run with a gap of more than 4 minutes on Xavier Jove and Ander Lazkano. Jens was already running on fourth place. The crowd was cheering Ruben with so much energy as he is the kid of the town and he didn’t disappointed them, crossing the finish line first with a solid performance!
Eva García and Sara Bonilla started running almost together, with less than a minute on the big hills, were all participants were walking and the crowd could see both competitors. García showed a strong mind being able to run under the pressure of the lead for both laps and took the win in front of Sara. Rocio Espada was third not so far back.
The day finished with a big post finishline party with local food and drinks next to the sea!
