Olivier Fellmann – 2017 XTERRA European M50-54 Champion

Olivier Fellmann proved this year, that if you want it you can do it! The French chef raced almost every race of the 2017 XTERRA European Tour and was always in the top 10 of his AG. He collected points in every race,  finished the season in the top place of his category and proudly wears the 2017 Euro Tour Champion jersey.

XE: What is your Name, Age, Country and place of Stay?

Olivier Fellmann,  I’m 52years old, I’m French and I live in Luxembourg since 33 years.

XE: What is your occupation, family Status?

I’m the creator and director of Espaces -Saveurs  a company involved in gastronomy that owns 7 restaurants in Luxembourg. I’m married since 21years and we have 3 children.

XE: How many years you are involved with triathlon? What is your athletic background-How all started?

I’m involved in triathlon the last 5 years. When I was younger I never had time for sports, I used to run and cycling a little and do a marathon without any preparation or “La Marmotte” a famous bike race with only 300km training!

5 years ago, when my kids have grown and my job has been less demanding I’ve decided to start triathlon and I have begun with the ironman in Nice followed by Embrunman. A friend told me about XTERRA and I’ve started with Malta almost 3years ago and the story begins!

XE: Which of the three disciplines is your favorite?

My favourite discipline is mountain biking and then running.

XE: How many XTERRA did you raced in 2017, (results)

This year I participated at 11 XTERRA events. Malta 4th AG -Greece 6th AG -Spain 5th AG -Belgium 9th AG -Switzerland 9th AG -France 10th AG – Italy 7th AG -Norway 3rd AG -Poland 7th AG -Germany10th AG -Denmark 10th AG

XE: What was the best/worst moment of 2017?

The best moment was during the run in XTERRA Spain when I’ve passed Didier Bucheler the leader of my age group for the first time. The worst was when I saw my watch indicating 37:20 for my swimming time in Denmark .

But of course the best for me is to be European champion in the same time with my son Pâris!

XE: Where will be the best XTERRA place for you?

In Luxembourg of course!! 😉

XE: How do you keep the balance between regular work, family & friends and training? How do you keep motivated?

I keep the balance between those elements because I work with Organicoach. Tom Dureux my coach prepares a personal planning in consideration of my timetable.  My son is also a XTERRA athlete so we’re sharing this together and my wife is aware about nutrition and wellness so she is participating and giving some precious advices.

XE: What is your suggestion to someone that wants to change his life and start doing sports but has limited time?

Take a coach, eat well and sleep well!

XE: Who is for you,  as a racer, a good XTERRA character and why?

For me the good character for the XTERRA racer is to be a nature lover because the races are always in some wonderful places and you have to keep them like they are.

XE: Where was your favorite race in the Euro Tour 2017?

-Impossible to say! All the events where so nice! It could be swimming in Greece with the Spanish  mountain bike, a Norwegian trail with the famous Belgium ambiance, or  a beautiful place like Italy with the family atmosphere like Malta!

XE: What are your plans for 2018?

I’ll learn to swim correctly and I’ll try to keep the jersey!

Additionally with Florian Badou and Denis Detinne from XTERRA Belgium we are trying to organise a new XTERRA event in Luxembourg.  Hope that all negotiations with the authorities will go as planed and we will get the green light for an event in 2019. It looks that it will be another busy year.
